Rowing on the lake from Soustons
Over the past few years, Soustons has become an ideal location for top level training camps. We are regularly visited by the French National Squad, The german scullers, and also some of the Dutch Olympic boats, not only for rowing but also for cycling. The scullers in this picture (curtesy of Geerd Cirkel) is of Jan Willem Gabriels, Gijs Vermeulen and Matthjis Valenga in 2007, where they had flat calm conditions like this every day for 2 weeks. This was their fourth visit here. The main part of the lake is about 4.5km long, with a marked out 2k course (in the photo here just behind the scullers). The water sports centre is situated in the south-west corner, where the lake bends round for an additional 500m. Apart from this section, the rest of the lake is straght.
Since 2005 we have had three brand new buildings, each with eight rooms. Each room has two beds, a shower, toilet, tv and wirless internet (no extra price). From the beginning of 2008 we have been able to offer a rowing equipped gym in addition to our sport's hall. In the older part of the centre we can sleep 72 more people, in 4 person rooms. The kitchen and canteen are in this part of the centre as well, and are shared by all groups. Everything including the boats and lake are withing a 100m radius. Food can be negotiated with us in advance. If you give us an idea of what is important for your group, we can send you an initial menu plan, which you can adapt until you are happy.
