THE LAKE FROM SOUSTONS
The Water-Sport-Centre is situated in the South-West-Part of the lake and here in a protected corner – like a finger – to the South-East. From here you row about 700 m to the opened lake and then there are 4.500 m to go straight on. After about 500 m you reach the regatta course in the most narrow part, behind the lake is about 1.000 m wide. Even if there is strong wind – which is very seldom – rowing is always possible within these first 2.500 m. The water is not deep, around one meter; so the boats are slower than usual, you might calculate about two seconds by 500 m – should know this before.
Apart from rowing activities on the lake are limited to the South-West-Part with the Centre. Mostly always rowing is possible without any disturbance on the 4.500 m. And very often conditions are as perfect as you see it on the two pictures left side in the morning and evening; during the day with the heat wind might come up. Ask for example our Dutch friends or the German scullars from Lothar Trawiel who came here in November 2006 and 2007; the Lightweights from Oxford who had a very good week with perfect rowing this January – and might come back in March. We are glad that all they come back ! And we know why...
