THE LAKE FROM SOUSTONS

The Water Sports Centre is located in the South West corner of the lake, in a protected corner which bends off like a finger to the south East. From here you row for about 500m to the lake, and then there is approximately a 4500m straight course. The 2k course is in the narrowest part, and is the most sheltered if the conditions are bad. After it, the lake is about 1000m wide. In bad conditions therefore (which are rare and hardly ever severe) it should always be possible to use the sheltered course.

The water is only about a meter deep,so the boats are slower than usual. An approximate calculation is 2 seconds per 500m. This is useful for you to know in advance..

Aside from rowing, activities on the lake are limited to the South-West part beside the Centre. You can normally row without any disturbance on the 4500m stretch. Conditions are often perfect, as in these pictures, but if it gets windy it will be later in the day, along with the sun.
